What It’s About:

(From the website mission statement):  The mission of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is to ensure the enactment of policies that properly provide for our Troops & Veterans, keep our military strong, and guarantee our national security for the purpose of a stronger America. We uniquely empower Iraq & Afghanistan combat veterans to use their credibility and experiences to speak truth to power, shape public opinion, and place a priority on these issues.

How Henry Helps:

Henry has referenced the site in several interviews.  Interview with founder Paul Rieckhoff and fellow Iraq War veteran Jason Lemieux on The Henry Rollins Show (EPISODE 310 – FRIDAY, JUNE 15TH 2007).  He also donated signed merchandise for the IAVA’s First Annual Fall Benefit in New York.

What It’s About:

(From the official website): The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress — and enduring style of USO delivery — is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO currently operates more than 130 centers worldwide, including ten mobile canteens located in the continental United States and overseas. Overseas centers are located in Germany, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Qatar, Korea, Afghanistan, Guam, and Kuwait. Service members and their families visit USO centers more than 5.3 million times each year. The USO is the way the American public supports the troops.

How Henry Helps:

Henry give 4 weeks or more each year to travelling on behalf of the USO.   So far he’s done at least 8 tours, including visits to bases in Kuwait, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan (twice), Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Honduras, Japan, Korea and the United Arab Emirates.   Henry is proof positive that it’s possible to support the troops 110%, while still disagreeing with the political decisions of the current administration.
